October & November 2023 Newsletter

Greetings to our Audiophile Community,

Welcome to our combined October and November newsletter, where we delve into discussions about our speaker designs, latest developments, exciting revelations, and exploring exceptional music to test the prowess of your audio setups.

Speaker Design Insights:

Recently, a query came our way through our website regarding why Spatial Audio Lab doesn't produce a true full-range speaker (20Hz to 20kHz frequency response) and why we stick to the 2.5-way configuration instead of opting for a 3-way design.

Dipole Speakers and Design Considerations: Dipole speakers work to enhance sound experiences by reducing room interaction. However, they face challenges in efficiently delivering low frequencies due to the extreme wavelengths in the lower octaves. While H-Frame designs and large "wings" can aid in providing extension, we believe these solutions compromise overall sound quality and aesthetic appeal, not to mention their impact on room space.

2.5-Way vs. 3-Way Designs: 2.5-way designs strike a great balance, offering increased efficiency as the midrange contributes to bass output. However, the complexity and costliness of 3-way designs don’t diminish their value—there might just be more to come. 😉

Recent Developments:

Q6 Update: Regrettably, the Q6 is currently on indefinite hold. Clayton Shaw, our team member, has released an entry-level open baffle speaker that's garnered positive reviews over at New Record Day on YouTube. While this move is separate from Spatial Audio Lab's primary objectives, it’s an exciting development worth exploring. Keep an eye out for its potential debut at Capital Audio Fest in November. www.ClaytonShawAcousticLab.com

Revelation Series - 300B Monoblocks and Preamplifier: Lynn Olson shares insights on the Blackbird, a culmination of 25 years of dedication to the most linear amplifier concept. The upcoming 300B Monoblocks and Preamplifier aim to deliver unparalleled audio quality, featuring a design that utilizes balanced, matched pairs of the most linear vacuum tubes and passive devices.

Exploring Audio Performance through Music:

For those seeking new musical experiences to test their audio setup's capabilities, we recommend the following tracks:

Soundstage: Dire Straits, “Fade to Black” and “Brothers in Arms”

Instrument Separation: Mike Oldfield, “The Source of Secrets”

Tone and Texture: Snarky Puppy, “Outlier” and Sonny Rollins, “I’m An Old Cowhand”

Bass: VCMG, “Bendy Bass”

We're eager to hear your favorite tracks! Share your go-to music that demonstrates an audio system's prowess by reaching out to supportteam@spatialaudiolab.com.

Stay tuned for a future newsletter where we will highlight some of your recommended tracks.

Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm.
